Welcome to East Market Neighborhood Mural

Artists: Lea Rizzo, Taylor Markham, Kristina Kaiser, Chloe Smith

Next time you're at the Rochester Public Market, be sure to check out our latest collaborative mural at Fourth St. & Hayward Ave! The Yards Collective Director, Kristina Kaiser teamed up with the East Market Neighborhood Association (formerly known as GP4H) on a project funded by the City of Rochester’s Neighbors In Action Grant, ESL, and the Rochester Area Community Foundation.

In partnership with Taproot Collective, local teens, and artists from The Yards community, the building was completely transformed in under two weeks. The mural was brought to life with the help of a fabulous dream team of creatives: Kristina Kaiser, Chloe Smith, Taylor Markham, and Lea Rizzo. The design celebrates the magical moments you might discover in your own neighborhood gardens, making it a vibrant reflection of community pride and creative collaboration.

Above are selected images from the first week of the project where we worked with Taproot Collective. Kristina worked with 30 teens over the course of the week to prep the walls for the next stage of the mural project.

Below you will find some of the initial sketches created by Kristina Kaiser. These sketches went through the approval of the City of Rochester, the EMN Neighborhood Association, and the building owner.

For week two Kristina coordinated a powerhouse team of artists that have worked with the Yards Collective in the past. The team was made up of Lea Rizzo, Chloe Smith, Taylor Markham, and Kristina Kaiser. This project represented multiple generations of mural artists and created opportunities for artists to continue working on future projects around the Rochester Public Market. Taylor who is currently going to college for painting immediately secured a mural project following the completion of this mural.
